What is it for? Chemists' Own Acidophilus Bifidus is formulated to support healthy digestive function and help re-establish the digestive flora that may have been adversely affected by antibiotic therapy or gastrointestinal upset. The health of the digestive tract is critical to maintaining overall good health and vitality. To do this our digestive tract needs a healthy balance of beneficial and potentially harmful bacteria. Maintaining this balance enables our digestive tract to function effectively, obtaining the nutrients we require from the food we eat and eliminating waste. The active ingredients in this product are encapsulated in a patented acid resistant coating that enables them to survive the acid environment of the stomach and effectively colonise the intestines.
How does it work? - Beneficial bacteria, such as lactobacillus and bifidus are called probiotics. Probiotic bacteria favourably alter the intestinal microflora balance, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, promote good digestion and maintain immune function and resistance to gastrointestinal infection. - Lactobacillus and bifidus maintain a healthy balance of intestinal flora by producing organic compounds including lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and acetic acid. These increase the acidity of the intestine and also help to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. - Probiotic bacteria can be of particular benefit after antibiotic therapy or gastrointestinal upset as they help re-establish the appropriate balance of beneficial bacteria.
Is it suitable for me? - Not suitable for children. - Not recommended for use during antibiotic therapy as the beneficial digestive flora may be adversely affected. - It is recommended that Chemists' Own Acidophilus Bifidus be resumed at least one day after cessation of antibiotic therapy and continued for up to two weeks after that. - Suitable for pregnant or lactating women. - Suitable for vegetarians.
