Cod Liver Oil 275mg

Cod Liver Oil 275mgBackground
Chemists' Own Cod Liver Oil is derived from natural sources (i.e. extracted from the liver of cod) and has active constituents not found in Vitamin A and D concentrates or synthetic vitamins. It is very high in the fat-soluble vitamins A and D.

Therapeutic effects
- Helps maintain healthy skin, mucous membranes and night vision.
- Relief of symptoms of colds, flu and mild upper respiratory complaints.
- May help increase joint mobility associated with arthritis.

How it works
- Cod Liver Oil assists in the treatment of colds and flu by reducing the severity and duration of symptoms and may also help relieve mucus congestion. Cold Liver Oil may also be used to assist in the temporary relief of bronchial cough, to relieve sinus pain and the symptoms of hay fever and mild upper respiratory infections.
- The major role of vitamin D in the body is to facilitate Calcium absorption. Like Vitamin A, it is important for growth in children and also for correct development of teeth and healthy bones. May help increase joint mobility associated with arthritis.
- Both Vitamins A and D are very important for the maintenance of healthy skin and may help to provide relief from the symptoms of eczema. When exposed to high amounts of glare, Vitamin A stores are used up more quickly and would therefore increase dietary requirements. Vitamin A is essential to maintain healthy eyesight and may provide relief from superficial eye problems such as sore, red and inflamed eyes, assisting visual fatigue and eyestrain.

Side Effects
- Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and is stored in fat tissues and the liver. An excess of Vitamin A can produce toxicity. Long-term (greater than 20 years) supplementation of 15,000IU per day of Vitamin A has not produced toxicity in adult studies and is considered safe. Toxic levels of Vitamin A can accumulate more quickly in the foetal liver and so, to be safe, it is recommended that pregnant women do not exceed 2,500IU per day. This is equivalent to 5 Cod Liver Oil capsules a day. Toxicity symptoms include peeling skin and bulging eyes.
