Valerian Plus 2000

Valerian Plus 2000What is it for?
Chemists' Own Valerian Plus 2000 is formulated to assist in the relief of insomnia and promote calm restful sleep. It contains added Magnesium to provide nutritional support for healthy functioning of the nervous system and to reduce the incidence of muscular cramps and spasms that can adversely impact on sleep quality.
Poor sleep can have serious effects on our ability to function effectively, lead to declining energy levels and impact negatively on our state of mind and emotional wellbeing. Unfortunately many people suffer from sleep disturbances, the most frequent of these include difficulties in falling asleep, restlessness and disrupted sleep. Sleep disturbances are often a symptom of emotional stress and anxiety, however in some cases underlying illness should not be ruled out.

How does it work?
- The exact mechanism of action of valerian extract is not entirely understood, however several constituents have been identified as being therapeutically active including valerenic acids, volatile oils and monoterpene and sesquiterpene lactones. It is known that central nervous system sedation is regulated by GABAA receptors, and it appears that the sedative action may be due to the binding of particular active constituents with GABAA receptors, facilitating the action of gamma-aminobutyric acid, a naturally occurring inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain.
- Clinical studies on valerian extract have shown it to be effective as a mild sedative and sleep-promoting agent and it can significantly improve sleep quality and make the transition to sleep easier, however it does not tend to increase total sleep time. Valerian extract is an effective substitute for other sedatives and has been shown to be particularly useful in the relief of anxiety induced sleep disturbances.
- Magnesium provides nutritional support for healthy functioning of the nervous system and reduces the incidence of muscular cramps and spasms that can adversely impact on sleep quality.
