Echinacea 5000

Echinacea 5000Background
There are at least 9 species of Echinacea (also know as the Purple Coneflower) that grow in North America. Of these only Echinacea angustifolia, Echinacea pallida and Echinacea purpurea are utilised in modern phytotheraphy. Echinacea purpurea has the most extensive clinical evidence supporting its use as an immune stimulant. The most effective products are those containing dried juice concentrates of Echinacea purpurea.

Therapeutic uses
Echinacea is best know for its effect in maintaining a healthy immune system and reducing the severity and duration of the symptoms of colds, flu and mild upper respiratory tract infections.

Mechanism of action
Echinacea exhibits a broad spectrum of effects on the immune system. It possesses anti-viral properties and enhances the early non specific phase of the immune response by enhancing serum leukocyte and granulocyte counts. Echinacea has also been shown to promote non specific T-cell activation resulting in enhanced antibody binding and natural killer cell activity. In addition to its immune stimulating properties, Echinacea has also been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory effects.
